A new showhome meets office in Wanaka is a bold initiative to
meld architectural work with leading suppliers in the building
industry, raising awareness of the building options available
to the Wanaka region. The new premises provide expansion from
the existing Gary Todd Design Dunedin based office to cater
to the increased demand in Central Otago and the demand engendered
through increasing awareness of the award winning designs produced
by Gary Todd. Working as a fluid appointment venue incorporating
new emergent trends, the showhome was first opened to the public
in January in Easter 2006, 3000 visitors flooded through the
doors. The project was enjoyed by the public who were enthused
by the modern architectural style, innovative use of the small
site, sense of interior space, and interesting use of colours
and materials. The showhome continues by appointment with Gary
Todd Design who use the premises as a Central Otago Office and
Holiday Home as time allows.
Reflecting this innovative combination of design,
colour and material selection, the showhome was recently awarded winner in
three categories of the Resene ADNZ Regional Design Awards
- Residence over 250 square metres, Residential Interiors and
a Colour Award. Judges Michael Ovens Architect, John McLean
McLean Design Studio and Jo Parry of Resene commented... "A
collaborative initiative. we admired the great use of a small
site... We loved the kitchen and felt the internal areas flowed
very well... Great use of different materials, fittings, and
colour, with well proportional spaces... Vibrant colour
use creating distinguishing personality. Neat clean character
is created by an off white mainly and some clear bright colours
as contrast and impact. Clever use of colour banding on the
exterior to highlight the emergence of the house from the strata."
Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen in hues of Resene Sea
Fog, Resene Double Sea Fog, Resene Pohutukawa, Resene Black
White and a special colour Resene metallic decorate the walls,
while outside a vignette of Resene Gravel strength variants
in Resene X-200 waterproofing membrane set the scene for the
visitor experience.
