Boutique Hair @ Salon Chic in Waterloo, Lower Hutt, combines practical paint finishes with personality plus. If you were told that the painter had used a black, a pastel and a bit of metallics, you’d envisage solid wall space and clean edged trims. Not so with this salon!
The salon was completely refurbished to combine a hair salon and beauty therapy clinic, comprising a floor area of 36 square metres with four working bays. Keen to make a striking impression on clients, the paint finish is applied with such artistry that the paint takes on a space defying 3D presence.
The project plan focused on the use of black and silver,with detailing or features around the mirrors. However once underway the plans changed and the plaster mouldings were introduced. A large cornice was fitted along with the eight panels beside the mirrors.
The plasterboard walls were finished in Resene Super Gloss tinted to Resene Nero (black), Resene White and Resene Enamacryl Metallic Pure Pewter (green edged metallic). The metallic was applied over the sealer in highlighted areas, followed by the Resene Super Gloss over the complete surface. Portions of the Resene Super Gloss were then polished off with linseed oil to expose the under layers, allowing the metallic tones to shine through. The high gloss walls are easy to clean and improve the light reflectance of the dark coating. The walls are complemented by aluminium window joinery finished in Resene Nero and the concrete floor finished in Resene Aquapoxy.
The ceiling is finished in Resene Enamacryl waterborne gloss tinted to Resene Milk Punch (ochre cream) applied using an antiquing technique. Resene Pearl Shimmer was also applied to the ceiling and centre pieces for extra visual effect. To complete the look the reception desk was covered with a well matched vinyl.
With the hair and beauty salon now open for business, the care and attention to detail of the paint finish has been transferred to the care and attention of clients.
