Big splash - Naenae Shopping Centre
Barely more than a stone’s throw from the main Resene Naenae plant, the Naenae Shopping Centre has been buffeted by the weather with paint finishes and shop facades becoming faded, tired and less than inviting. Keen to restore pride and inject colour into the retail environment, the Lower Hutt City Council worked with local store owners and copious quantities of donated Resene paint for the ‘The Big Splash’. Photos were taken of the existing shops then electronically rendered using the Resene RenderRite service to assist with colour selection.

With a very restricted budget, the project relied on the generosity of volunteers to assist with the clean up and paintwork, enticed with promises of barbecues, activities for the children and a chance to put something back into their community. The difference a dedicated group of volunteers can make in a single ‘Big Splash’ day is impressive. The Naenae Shopping Centre now looks revitalised and refreshed, a retail space for the community to be proud of.
