From the Resene News – issue 2/2002 Shop 'til you drop - Bayfair shopping complex A sizeable project by anyone's definition, thousands of square metres of substrates were coated in the path to completion. 6,178 square metres of primarily Harditex used in the extensions were finished with a sealed Resene Jointflex jointing system, followed by Resene X-200 Waterproofing Membrane, a textured coat of Resene Resitex Medium and a final topcoat of Resene Lumbersider satin acrylic tinted as required to fit the project colour scheme. A further 5,166 square metres of interior and exterior concrete substrates including tilt panels, beams and columns were coated with an adhesion promoting seal coat of Resene Smooth Surface Sealer followed by Resene Thixalon 5 textured coating and a finish coat of Resene Lumbersider.
Having coated 12,000 square metres, a further 5,908 square metres of steel beams, braces and stairs required a Resene Engineered Coatings Systems specification to provide maximum protection to these rust prone areas. Steel substrates were spot primed with Resene Armourzinc 120 organic zinc rich primer, followed by a full coat of Resene Armourcote 510 high solids epoxy and a Resene Uracryl 403 acrylic polyurethane gloss topcoat. Just to make the painting contractor's job a little more challenging, a unique wave design was applied to the exterior of the Farmers building, transforming the bland wall area into the ideal themed wall for a bayside shopping experience. The
Bayfair shopping complex in Mt Maunganui has been treated to a four
stage extension and redevelopment programme to provide larger format
stores, including an extended Countdown and new Farmers store, new parking
facilities and upgraded mall options for all Bay shoppers at an estimated
total building project cost of $40 million.
