Looking at a grey fibrolite garage wall every morning at breakfast prompted Gainor to undertake some serious brainstorming and develop a brief for her renovations.

'Reasonably maintenance free, clean look but not clinical, mobile plants, lighting and WOW factor' was what Gainor was looking for and luckily is exactly what she managed to achieve.

Finding shutters initially proved challenging but after several visits to recyclers she found what she wanted for just $18. Most other accessories came from friends and many pieces were saved from a trip to the rubbish dump.

With the help of a landscape gardener - Paul Woods, Gainor's brief and sketches were put into action and the driveway got the WOW factor it needed. With the area looking perfect to plan, it seemed logical for Gainor to carry the theme on around the back.

A rotary clothesline dominated the back lawn and an old tankstand greeted visitors at the back door. Both were removed with a new exterior washing line relocated behind a new baby corrugated screen and a petanque area put in next to the garage. A mirror and shutters were added for interest.

Moving to the deck area, a baby corrugated iron screen was used to provide privacy from neighbours. Painted in bold Resene Dynamite, this screen usually elicits a verbal response when first viewed. Partnered with Resene Whale Blue on the deck it screams 'attitude'. Resene Dynamite was also used for all accessories in the driveway and the garden furniture to keep the bold look going and tie everything together. Five small mirrors were added to the deck screen to give depth to the wall.

Now that the work is done, Gainor can enjoy her "garden of reflections, a garden to reflect in".
