Homebased
Paula's homebased naturopathy clinic was a perfectly serviceable pale green with a white (leaning towards dirty grey) ceiling. The room unfortunately faces South so even if the colours looked okay, the room always felt cold, especially after a full day of appointments surrounded by the walls for hours on end. With new dark furniture coming, it was time for a colour change.

First the 1960's wall light was removed, initially hidden with diplomas hung over the space until Rockwool could be blown into the c. 1925 exterior walls for warmth.

The walls were painted in Resene Hathaway and the ceiling in Resene Half Dutch White, with many late nights spent up ladders to complete the project before the business reopened after the Christmas break. The project also gave Paula the perfect chance to address the wardrobe - by painting the trim to match the wall colour, the wardrobe could be blended into the rest of the room.

Room

All paint was stripped from the door and window trim and the skirting boards. This revealed a mix of pine and Rimu, quickly remedied with woodstain to get all timber looking like a Rimu finish.

The hallway was a 'nightmare' in green - forest green carpet, light green tiles, forest green and mint green walls. The carpet was immediately dyed to a teal blue to reduce the sheer greenness of the area. The mix of wall linings - scrim, pinex and ivoryboard - forced the picture rail to be located at two different heights... it was time to bring in the builders! All the wall linings were removed and the hall was re-wired and the ugly ornate 60's light swatches were replaced. The gas heater, long past its prime, was removed at the builder's suggestion. New paperfaced plasterboard was installed completed with GIB® coving in keeping with the style of the home. Once the wallwork was complete, the finishing touches of Resene Hathaway and Resene Dutch White were painted and new light fittings were added. It now looks light and warm to the extent that they keep thinking that they've left the lights on!
